Natural Remedies – Cat Care the Homeopathic Way

Maybe you’ve discovered for yourself the benefits of natural remedies. Cat healthcare experts are beginning to promote the same thinking when it comes to caring for your feline, as well. If you have a cat, then you will benefit from learning about natural cat care, natural cat supplies, and the utilization of homeopathic care for cats.

Nothing beats Mother Nature when it comes to providing the best quality cures and preventatives for whatever ails us – and the same is true of our feline friends. We’ve been led to believe for decades that the foods and products that are best for our cats can only be had by shopping at chain pet stores and supermarkets – that the manufacturers of these cat foods and other related products are the only ones who understand what is good for the health of our pets. They’ve done such a good job of convincing us, that even some vets out there are towing the party line, and really have no good idea about what our choices are when it comes to the standard of quality in cat products.

Fortunately, more and more cat healthcare professionals are re-discovering the benefits of all natural cures and products, and are recognizing the superior value of herbal treatments to promote feline wellness. Current research is proving that natural remedies for cats aren’t merely better than the traditional, and harsh, medicine we’ve been forced to rely on ’til now, they’re proving to be far safer than traditional healing techniques as well.

Take cat food for an example:

The vast majority of the preferred commercial cat care products include chemicals and other artificial ingredients that might actually be dangerous to the ongoing health of your cat. Check the labels – does your cat food include corn or corn by-products in it? Fillers like this sound perfectly alright to the uninformed, but the fact is that a cat’s digestive system cannot process all the same foods that humans, or even dogs, can. Using such products might make life easier (and more lucrative) for the cat food manufacturers, but they are shortening your cat’s life span. Basically, many conventional products are creating more problems for your kitty than they solve.

You may remember the pet food recall which happened a few years back. That was a real eye-opener for many pet owners, and drove home the point that we can’t necessarily rely on pet food manufacturers to consider the health of our cats over their bottom line.

Your cat is a beloved member of your family, and deserves no less than the best in medical care. And when it comes to your cats, natural remedies are the wisest choice, just as it is for yourself. The smartest thing about using natural, homeopathic remedies for cats is the fact that they work in tandem with your cat’s innate healing processes, unlike some commercial products that actually block the animal’s natural healing abilities. Just as it is when it comes to food, natural products are also best when it comes to curing common cat ailments.

Cost is a factor in the hesitation of some cat owners to use natural remedies for their cats. While it’s sometimes the case that natural cat supplies cost a bit more than standard ones, the difference in cost reflects the fact that natural products use only the best ingredients. If you truly love your cat, you won’t mind the additional cost that premium products may incur any more than you would hesitate to purchase the best quality food and healthcare for yourself or your family.

When it comes to looking after your cat’s health, natural remedies for cats truly are the best. If you have trouble finding them in your local stores, there are many excellent holistic pet stores on the web that carry a huge and varied inventory of homeopathic items for cats as well as organic cat foods and other natural cat supplies.

6 Unconventional Remedies to Ease Toothache

Pain in the tooth occurs when the innermost layer of the tooth also known as dental pulp becomes inflamed. The pulp comprises of sensitive nerves and blood vessels. There are many causes of toothache such as cavities, cracked tooth, receding gums, ulcers in gums, sinusitis and many more. It is recommended to visit a dentist if the pain is severe, persists for 2-3 days or when you experience a sharp pain in anywhere on your face while opening your mouth.

However, applying home toothache remedies will save you a lot of money and put off the dental work that must be done. It is safe, effective and without side effects. So, let’s have a look at some remedies for toothache:

Warm Salt Water

In a glass of warm water, mix a half spoon of common salt. Rinse your mouth thoroughly. This remedy helps in reducing swelling in gums and also fights bacterial infection.

Peppermint Tea Bags

Peppermint or ‘Pudina’ (In Indian language) is used in many households as spice in Indian culinary. But only few know that it has medicinal properties like reducing pain and staving off bacterial infection. Put a peppermint tea bag in 1 cup boiling water and steep for 20 minutes. After the tea cools, swish it around in your mouth, and then spit it out or swallow. The astringent tannins in the tea may help suppress pain. This toothache remedy will definitely benefit in your dental woes.

Rinse with Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide can be an effective anti-microbial tooth wash. Mix equal parts 3% hydrogen peroxide and water, and swish the mixture in your mouth for 30 seconds. You can repeat once or twice. This may provide a few minutes of temporary toothache relief, and it can help ward off gingivitis, which is a possible cause of tooth pain. A word of caution here is to not to ingest the solution as it can cause stomach or intestinal problems. Also, if you mix too much hydrogen peroxide it may burn your mouth.

Ice It Away

Put an ice cube in a plastic bag, wrap a thin cloth around the bag, and apply it to the aching tooth for about 15 minutes. This will numb the nerves. You can also put an icepack on your cheek, over the painful tooth. Some people also believe that if you massage your hand with ice, you can relieve tooth pain. It is speculated that the hands will send a cold signal to your brain that may outweigh the pain felt in the tooth. Try this unorthodox remedy for toothache and see if you can feel relief from the pain.

Apply Garlic

Just like peppermint, garlic is not only used for culinary preparations, it too has medicinal properties. Garlic is an antibiotic and can inhibit the growth of bacteria which is attacking the tooth. There are two ways to use garlic. You can both mash a garlic clove, a little salt and apply the paste to the aching part. You can also chew a clove. This can be done 2-3 times a day.

Acupuncture Helps

Acupuncture is no longer an old-school thing; it is now widely accepted in the healthcare community. According toThe National Health Statistics Report, an over 3 million people receive acupuncture a year. This can be an unconventional toothache remedy to say bye-bye to your throbbing tooth. The Union Valley point is located on the highest point of the fleshy joining between the thumb and the index finger when they are brought together. Apply pressure for about 2-3 minutes. This is a decongestant and anti-inflammatory point and can be used to treat toothaches.

Are Natural Remedies the Answer to the Healthcare Debate in America?

Could natural remedy healthcare be the wave of the future for Americans? As healthcare costs continue to rise along with insurance premiums and more job losses, our uninsured population is growing and the downward spiral unfolding begs the question…will mainstream America turn to natural remedies to solve their ailing needs? Recent discussions on the proposed healthcare bill our Federal Administration is engaged in appear to be facing so much resistance and ongoing debate that many Americans are now asking themselves whether such a bill will even pass. In the meantime, sick people in need of healthcare must be starting to wonder “is there another way?”

Desperate Times Call for Extreme Measures

There is a growing trend of people seeking less expensive health care in countries outside our borders. Just the other day, Bill Handel of KFI’s AM640 Talk Radio, interviewed a published book author who wrote of his personal attempt at saving a desperate dying man by flying to China in search of a new kidney. The cost of the successful kidney transplant was $32,000 in China, whereas in the U.S., the cost is reportedly $375,000. It is also quite well-known that dental care and cosmetic surgery procedures are far less expensive and readily accessible in Mexico than can be found in the U.S. Clearly, there is a need for affordable healthcare in the U.S….not just for emergency live-saving procedures like the example just illustrated but for routine care addressing things like the cold and flu and annual physicals as well as diagnostic procedures like MRIs and CAT scans which currently run over $1,000 for the uninsured. Though optimism remains high for the passage of a healthcare bill, natural remedies may soon play an important role in filling the gaps.

Natural Remedies, Then and Now

Natural remedies used to be equated with tree-hugging, granola-loving, eco-friendly environmentalists who simply wanted to eliminate unhealthy chemicals from their foods and living environment while influencing a healthy planet. The notion of opting for organic, whole foods and green products as a preventive measure for good health is not new. Neither is the idea of pursuing natural remedies as an alternative to prescription drug medication. Just notice how many naturopathy, homeopathy and holistic healing centers have sprouted up in the past decade. Where it used to be one had to look under “Chinese medicine” in the yellow pages, natural remedies are no longer viewed so much as “alternative medicine” or “complimentary” but are frequently found to be included in most household medicine cabinets today. A recent study of pomegranate juice has revealed a potential remedy in the reversal of Alzheimer’s disease for example.

Big Pharma and Regulators, Beware

The rise and acceptance of natural remedies has resulted in a trend of American awareness that is an open-minded and more educated mainstream population which asks a lot of questions…the kind of questions that doctors, drug manufacturers, and Federal regulators can no longer evade. The public is fast becoming a knowledgeable nation via willing consumption of virally-infectious information streams flowing out of the likes of You-Tube and other social media outlets. The news is instantaneously spreading and by all indications, the prognosis for natural remedies in the form of whole food nutrition, health supplements, herbs and essences is favorable and here to stay. Western society is hungry for anything resonating chemical-free, environmentally sustainable, Fair-trade and found in nature.

The F.D.A. Role

Probing inquiries into the lobbying mechanism by deep-pocketed pharmaceutical companies reveal questionable conflicts of American health interests when Food and Drug Administration regulators who approve prescription drug safety are possibly none other than former pharma company execs themselves. Damaging allegations identify many of our regulatory experts as former industry executives. As this information becomes more publicly known, it may create a window of opportunity for natural remedies as a solution where the prescription-drug path to healing might otherwise lead to bankruptcy for the very sick and uninsured. On the other hand, this is where things could also get a little dicey for sick individuals…will societal acceptance of natural remedies extend to the treatment of serious life-threatening diseases such as cancer? In spite of such a warm social reception to natural remedies, the F.D.A. is sufficiently poised, both politically and financially, to reasonably deny the efficacy of scientifically studied natural remedy alternatives. Without F.D.A. approval natural remedy makers face an uphill battle.

And the Verdict is…

For the foreseeable future it seems society will continue to makes its own determination. And we will continue to swallow gulps of whatever medicine is fed through the cyber channels. It is anyone’s guess what the outcome will be for natural remedies regardless of the adoption of a national healthcare bill. For those who have not heard, it has been rumored that President Barack Obama’s election to the oval office in large part hinged on the successful efforts of grass-roots internet tactics and social media campaigning. Wow! If that is true, then anything is possible.

Nutritional Supplements and Herbal Remedies For Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis

If you have been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, and are thinking about using natural treatment methods, then there is an excellent chance that you have considered taking nutritional supplements and/or herbal remedies to help restore your health back to normal. While taking the right kind of nutritional supplements can help with Hashimoto’s, it can be both difficult and risky to attempt treating this serious autoimmune thyroid disorder on your own.

I have consulted with patients who figured that they can visit their local health food store and purchase a “thyroid support” formula, or a nutritional supplement that boosts the immune system, figuring that these types of supplements would provide the cure for their disorder. The truth is, most of the natural products that people purchase to treat conditions such as Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis don’t do much to help restore their health. While sometimes these supplements can provide temporary relief from their symptoms, in most cases it takes more than just nutritional supplements to completely restore a person’s health back to normal. And of course in some people with this condition, it is not possible to completely restore their health through natural treatment methods (although this doesn’t mean they still can’t benefit from a natural treatment protocol).

When choosing nutritional supplements for Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, you need to keep in mind that not only are you trying to restore the function of your thyroid gland, but just as important, you need to strengthen your immune system. And in most cases the adrenal glands and/or other areas of the body are affected as well. In fact, many healthcare professionals, including myself, agree that it is more important to focus on boosting the immune system before directly treating the thyroid gland. One reason for this is because a weakened immune system is a big reason why many people develop Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis in the first place.

Supplements For Immune System Support

Some of the supplements that can help boost your immune system for people with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis include Echinacea, Selenium, and Astragalus. Of course you should first consult with a competent doctor to determine which of these you should take, as well as the proper dosage. Before purchasing nutritional supplements, remember that the quality is extremely important. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to buy the most expensive supplements out there, but you do need to keep in mind that most nutritional supplements sold in retail stores, through the Internet, and even in many health food stores are of low quality. And if they aren’t high quality nutritional supplements, then chances are your body won’t properly absorb them, which obviously means you won’t get the optimal benefits from taking them.

So what’s wrong with taking an immune system support formula at your local health food store to help boost your immune system? Well, if you can find a high quality immune support formula then that’s great, but in addition to all of the low quality ones that are out there, just remember that is extremely difficult to find a single “natural pill” that can do a great job in strengthening your immune system. It is one thing to take a “wellness formula” to temporarily boost your immune system and reduce the likelihood of coming down with a cold or the flu. It is an entirely different thing to expect an immune system support formula to effectively combat an autoimmune condition, such as Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.

It is also important to know that it usually takes more than just ingesting nutritional supplements to strengthen one’s immune system. Here are five rules to follow that will help to boost your immune system, as well as help maintain the health of other areas of the body:

Rule #1: Eat healthy most of the time.
Rule #2: Take quality nutritional supplements.
Rule #3: Get at least 8 hours of quality sleep each night
Rule #4: Manage stress effectively
Rule #5: Exercise regularly

If you have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and do these five things with consistency, over time you will strengthen your immune system, which will help with your recovery. In addition, this will also help prevent other autoimmune conditions from developing in the future, which is very common with people who have Hashimoto’s. The reason for this is because most people simply take synthetic thyroid hormone for the rest of their lives, and never address the immune system component. So if you focus on strengthening your immune system, then in addition to restoring the function of your thyroid gland, you are much more likely to stay healthy in the future.

Get Your Adrenal Glands Checked Out

Besides focusing on the immune system component, you should also get your adrenals tested, as many people with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis have adrenal problems. And just as is the case with the immune system, the adrenal function needs to be regulated before giving any direct treatment to the thyroid gland. If you try treating the thyroid gland before strengthening the immune system and balancing the adrenal glands, the treatment won’t be nearly as effective.

Often times these problems I have spoken about thus far can be resolved by following the five rules I listed above, as eating healthy and regularly will help regulate your blood sugar levels, and in turn might be necessary to enforce rule #3, which involves getting quality sleep each night. Overall, when managing the adrenal glands the main key is to regulate the blood sugar levels. And the two best ways to do this are to 1) get rid of any sweet cravings you may have, and 2) avoid going long periods of time without eating.

Supplements To Address The Adrenal Glands

As for nutritional supplements that can help with the adrenal gland, one important one is called Gymnema, which can help stop any sweet and carbohydrate cravings you might have. You also need to manage the stress in your life, and while this does involve modifying your lifestyle to some extent, one herb that can help with chronic stress is Eleuthero, which is also called Siberian Ginseng. Once again, please consult with a competent doctor to determine the proper dosage of these supplements.

In addition to the immune system and adrenal glands, other areas of the body can be the cause of the problem, so while addressing the immune system and adrenal glands is important, this might not be enough to restore your health back to normal. Some people have problems with their gastrointestinal tract that is the underlying cause behind their disorder. Others have a hormonal imbalance that needs to be addressed. This is why it’s a good idea to consult with a natural endocrine doctor, as a competent one will look at other areas of the body, and not just the thyroid gland.

Supplements For Thyroid Gland Support

Speaking of the thyroid gland, there are supplements one can take to help with its function. Many people with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis are iodine deficient. However, someone with Hashimoto’s SHOULD NOT take iodine until both the immune system component and adrenals are addressed. If taken right off the bat, iodine can cause more harm than good, and this is one reason why many healthcare professionals will tell someone with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis to avoid iodine altogether. So iodine can be essential to take for a person who has a deficiency, but the timing is extremely important with regards to Hashimoto’s.

While there are other supplements and herbs that can offer thyroid support, such as Ashwaganda and Bladderwrack, the fact remains that with Hashimoto’s Thyroidits, the thyroid gland usually is not being directly affected. In other words, by addressing the actual cause of the autoimmune condition, often times giving minimal nutritional support to the thyroid gland will be fine. So there usually is no good reason to take many supplements directly aimed at restoring the function of the thyroid gland. By clearing up other areas of the body, and then giving some nutritional support to the thyroid gland, this gland will frequently begin functioning at a normal level again.

This of course assumes that it is possible to completely restore one’s health, as in some cases this can’t be done. For example, someone who had their thyroid gland completely removed will probably have to take synthetic or natural thyroid hormone for the rest of their lives. On the other hand, this doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t consider natural treatment methods to help strengthen their immune system, restore the function of their adrenal glands, correct any hormonal imbalances, etc.

In summary, taking nutritional supplements and herbal remedies in most cases can help. However, just because they are “natural” doesn’t mean they don’t carry any risks, which is why you should never self-treat yourself, and should instead consult with an expert. Since everyone is different, it makes sense that some people will need to take different supplements and herbs, and of course not everyone will need to take the same dosage.

Also, even though nutritional supplements and herbal remedies can help many people with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, taking supplements and herbs alone will not restore your health back to normal. In order to accomplish this, you need to make changes in your eating habits, exercise regularly, get quality sleep each night, and manage the stress in your life. So as you can see, restoring your health is definitely not easy to do, but most of the time it is possible. But the person with this condition needs to be ready to make these changes in their life. If you are ready to make these changes and want to see if you’re a candidate for a natural treatment protocol, then consider consulting with a natural endocrine doctor. It very well might be the wisest decision you make this year.
